New Year, True Me.
January.
A beginning. A refresh. A chance. A clean slate.
The holidays are over, and we are left with exhaustion and excitement all wrapped into one freshly packed snowball.
If you're anything like me, you have a crisp new calendar patiently waiting to be filled with things to do and places to be, and a fresh journal with endless blank lined pages waiting for random thoughts and recaps of lived days.
My last blog post was about The Gift of Looking Back. This month is about what happens after we look back, take a breath, and prepare to move forward. What are we taking with us? What are we leaving behind? There is so much opportunity that it can feel overwhelming if we let it.
I've realized that letting go of the typical resolutions of “new year, new me” also allows me to let go of the overwhelm. This year isn't about fixing or reinventing myself. I did that last year with a new website, a new client experience (still being perfected), and new offerings.
This year, it's about commitment. Commitment to myself, to Kristy Marie Photography, and to my clients — both old and new. A commitment that is simple in theory and slightly more challenging in practice, but the changes I made in 2025 will help me build KMP into what I know it can be — all under a commitment to staying true to myself.
Over the years, I’ve learned that staying true to myself isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity. When I don’t, everything begins to unravel, and that unraveling shows up everywhere — especially in my work. The cost is too great. So this year, my number one priority is alignment. Staying true to myself is what allows Kristy Marie Photography to be what it’s meant to be.
So what does that actually look like?
And more importantly — what does it mean for you?
It means I don’t force moments.
No matter the session or event, I’m not here to change what’s in front of me or ask anyone to become something they’re not. You are welcome in front of my camera exactly as you are. When we work together, there is space for you to be who you are and for me to be who I am, capturing the quiet beauty I see in people and their moments.
It means real life doesn’t need fixing.
Life is messy. It gets loud. It can feel chaotic. And somehow, inside all of that, it is deeply beautiful. That’s why I tell families to show up as they are. Runny noses, mismatched socks, messy hair, not wanting to leave mama’s side — bring it all. This is where the story lives.
It means there is an invitation, without expiration, to show up honestly.
You don’t need to perform for me or the camera. Will I ask you to laugh like I’m the funniest person you’ve ever met? Yes. Will I ask you to take ten steps forward and then, BAM, look back at me? Also yes. But those moments aren’t about perfection — they’re about movement, energy, and letting your guard down. You don’t need to be “photo ready,” and you don’t need to be perfect — I certainly am not. All I ask is that you come with an open mind, a few favorite outfits, and a full heart. Be present. Savor the time. It will show in your final gallery, I promise.
The end result?
Galleries that are beautiful not because they’re perfect, but because they’re true. Photographs filled with real moments, honest connection, and images you can return to year after year — holding those memories in your hands.
2026 is about being true to ourselves, and I’d be honored to document what unfolds for you this year.
XO,
Kristy
