Hey Seniors…

Last August, I wrote a blog about Creating a Safe Space for Real Moments. If you read it, you know it centered around high school seniors and why it matters so much to me that their entire session experience feels comfortable and real. If you haven’t read it yet, it’s still here on the site.

I’m coming back to seniors again because this time of year is something special in a way that’s hard to explain unless you’ve lived it.

I watched my son graduate from high school (we're now heading towards his college graduation!) so I know firsthand how important this time is for seniors and for their families, especially their moms.

I see you. I was you. I get it.

Senior year is a season of contradictions you can’t really prepare for.

It’s firsts and lasts.

Excitement and fear.

The known and the unknown.

Gain and loss.

Hello and goodbye.

Past and future.

Slowness and breakneck speed.

And woven through all of it are the emotional highs and lows that come without warning.

Many think that the importance of senior year is based on performance and next steps, and maybe it is.  But I think it's so much more than that.  It's watching our children step into adulthood.  It's seeing household dynamics change as seniors go off on their own, be it for work, college, or anything else they have their heart set on.

Senior year is a shift, no matter what is coming next.

It’s incredible and overwhelming and exciting and heartbreaking, all at the same time.

And every piece of it deserves to be held onto with both hands.

That’s why I believe, at my core, that this season is worth capturing, not producing.

Trends will come and go, they always do. But in the middle of all the noise (the technology, the over-the-top promposals, the constant pull of social media, the pressure to keep up) senior year offers something rare.

It offers us a chance to slow down, even if it’s just for one golden-hour evening. A chance to step away from the performance and lean into who you actually are. Because so much of high school is spent trying to fit in, and that’s part of it—it’s normal and almost expected. But somewhere near the end of that fourth year, seniors often find themselves on the cusp of discovering what's important to them, where they want to go, who they want to be, and most importantly, who they are right now.

Senior sessions are the chance to capture that here and now, because it's an incredibly magical place to be.

In a world that is driven by social media, overly-scheduled calendars, and the constant pressure to go big or go home,  KMP offers a safe space to slow down for a minute, tap into your authenticity, and enjoy a senior experience that is not about performing but about showing up as you are right now, in this moment, and creating images that reflect your energy, your story, and everything else that senior year holds.

Thank you, congratulations, and best of luck to all of the KMP seniors—past, present, and future.
