It didn’t have anything to do with work—or even my photography, really.
It felt more like I had given away too many pieces of myself without taking the time to replenish.

See, each photo session takes a little piece of me—a piece I give away freely.

Because to me, these aren’t just photos.

They’re pieces of people’s stories.
Moments they’ll carry forever.
And I pour myself into them—heart, soul, and everything in between.

Last year, I let go of the need for perfection and stepped into my desire for connection.
To make it. To capture it. To honor it.
It’s what makes us human—and what has made my work human.

At the start of this year, I knew I needed something different.
Something that filled me back up.
Not just creatively, but personally.

That’s how Her Light: A Year of Inspiration was born.

What started as a quiet idea grew into a full project—one that will stretch across this entire year and follow the stories of twelve different women, including my own.

Each session has been shaped, not scripted, by their words and their desires.
I bring my camera along and try to bring the story together through images.

So far, we’ve met in the gym, in the woods, on the beach, and in gardens—wherever her story felt most alive.
Some sessions have been soft and still.
Some have been wild and loud.
Some start as one thing and turn into something so much more than I could have expected.

There is no perfect lighting or curated posing here.
Just honesty, emotion, and a lot of intention.

The theme of each session has been different, but the heartbeat is the same: becoming.

Each session has been intentionally shaped in collaboration with the women themselves—but the titles? Those have surfaced naturally.
Through their words, through the process, through the images.
We now have Her Strength, Her Contradiction, and Her Bravery—and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Her Light isn’t about me—it’s about all of us.
It’s about returning to who we are beneath the roles we play.
It’s about honoring that version of ourselves.
It’s about being seen—truly seen—and standing in that light, even if our voices shake at first.

I’ve just begun to share these stories with you, and one by one, they’re adding light to a year that’s been anything but ordinary.

I encourage you to follow along for the rest of 2025—I can promise you won’t be disappointed.

Because these women?
They’ve already changed me.

They embody what it means to let go—and just breathe.

Their stories will stay with me.
And maybe… they’ll stay with you too.

XO,
Kristy

Learning As I Go, Loving Every Minute https://www.kristymariephotography.com/blog/2025/5/learning-as-i-go-loving-every-minute When I first started my photography journey, I slapped the tagline "Learning As I Go, Loving Every Minute" on my website, social media, and hashtags. Back then, it was my safety net. I was new, self-taught, and diving headfirst into capturing life’s moments in Southern Maine—portraits, weddings, families, you name it. I wasn’t the best in the industry, and I knew it. That tagline was my way of saying, “Hey, I’m figuring this out, so bear with me!” It gave me wiggle room to grow, a bit of grace for not being perfect, and a reminder to enjoy the ride.

Years later, that same tagline means something completely different. Now, when I say “Learning As I Go, Loving Every Minute,” it’s not an excuse—it’s a badge of honor. It’s a nod to the late nights spent teaching myself how to chase natural light, the countless moments I’ve captured that tell real, unposed stories, and the joy of growing alongside my clients. Being self-taught isn’t a limitation anymore; it’s my strength. It’s what makes my work raw, heartfelt, and uniquely mine.

This tagline also keeps me grounded. No matter how many sessions I shoot or how many stories I tell through my lens, there’s always more to learn. There’s a new angle to try, a fleeting expression to catch, or a better way to connect with the people in front of my camera. That’s what I love most about photography—it’s a journey without a finish line. It's a reminder to let go of the notion of "perfect" and finding freedom knowing I’m still learning as I go, and I’m loving every single minute of it.

Thanks for joining me on this ride. Here’s to capturing more moments, telling more stories, and growing together.
